Can M.2 NVMe SSDs be hot swapped?

No – M.2 NVMe SSD’s were not designed to support hot-swap. With the exception of some NVMe to USB solutions (single-drive, non-RAID products, such as our RocketMate 110), swapping M.2 drives “on the fly” is not currently possible.

If you need an NVMe storage solution that enables drives to be added or removed while the system is running, we would recommend opting for a U.2 based solution. Our SSD7580B PCIe Gen4 x16 8-Port U.2 NVMe RAID controller feature true “hot-plug” support.
