Upgrading RocketRAID Series Controllers

Product Upgrade Paths

Below is a list of recommended upgrade paths for customers using older or legacy series RocketRAID controllers.

Note: We cannot guarantee 100% compatibility with older hard drives or SSD’s. In most cases, EOL/Legacy drives have not been tested with the recommended upgrade/replacement controller, as they are no longer available nor supported by the manufacturer.

A. RR2300 Series

Customers using RocketRAID 2300 (RR2300) series controllers should upgrade to the RR600, RR2700, or RR800 series:

  1. Current product: RR2300/2310

Recommended upgrades:

PCIe 2.0 6Gb/s SATA: RR620

  1. Current product: RR2320

Recommend upgrades:

PCIe 2.0 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s: RR2720A

PCIe 2.0 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s (H/W RAID): RR4520SGL

PCIe 3.0 SATA 6Gb/s: RR840A

PCIe 3.0 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s: RR2840 Series

PCIe 3.0 SAS12Gb/s & SATA 6Gb/s: RR3720 Series

  1. Current product: RR2322

Recommended upgrade:

PCIe 2.0 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s: RR2722

PCIe 2.0 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s (H/W RAID): RR4522SGL

PCIe 3.0 SAS12Gb/s & SATA 6Gb/s: RR3742A

  1. Current product: RR2340

Recommended upgrade:

PCIe 3.0 SAS12Gb/s & SATA 6Gb/s: RR3740 Series

B. RR2600 Series

Customers using RocketRAID 2600 series (RR2600) should upgrade to RR2700 (6Gb/s SAS/SATA PCIe 2.0), RR2800 Series (6Gb/s SAS/SATA PCIe 3.0) ,or RR3700 series (12Gb/s SAS PCIe 3.0)

  1. Current product: RR2640x

Recommended upgrades (note 4-port models are not currently available):

PCIe 2.0 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s: RR2720A

PCIe 2.0 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s (H/W RAID): RR4520SGL

PCIe 3.0 SATA 6Gb/s: RR840A

PCIe 3.0 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s: RR2840 Series

PCIe 3.0 SAS12Gb/s & SATA 6Gb/s: RR3720 Series

  1. Current product: RR2680x

Recommended upgrades:

PCIe 2.0 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s: RR2720A

PCIe 2.0 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s (H/W RAID): RR4520SGL

PCIe 3.0 SATA 6Gb/s: RR840A

PCIe 3.0 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s: RR2840 Series

PCIe 3.0 SAS12Gb/s & SATA 6Gb/s: RR3720 Series

C. RocketRAID 4300 Series

Customers using RR4300 series controllers should upgrade to the RocketRAID 4500 Series

  1. Internal: RR4520SGL
  2. External: RR4522SGL

D. RocketRAID 2760/2760A/2782

RocketRAID 2760/2782 controllers are no longer in production (EOL). We recommend the following upgrades or replacements:

PCIe 3.0 SATA 6Gb/s: RR840 Series

PCIe 3.0 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s: RR2840 Series

PCIe 3.0 SAS12Gb/s & SATA 6Gb/s: RR3740 Series

E. RocketRAID 2710/2711

RocketRAID 2700 series 4-port RAID controllers are not currently available. Customers can move existing RAID/disks directly to other RR2700 controllers, such as the RocketRAID 2720A (internal) and RocketRAID 2722 (external).

  1. Current product: RR2710

Recommended Upgrades:

PCIe 2.0 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s H/W RAID: RR45202SGL

PCIe 3.0 SATA 6Gb/s: RR840 Series

PCIe 3.0 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s: RR2840 Series

PCIe 3.0 SAS12Gb/s & SATA 6Gb/s: RR3740 Series

  1. Current product: RR2711

Recommended Upgrades:

PCIe 2.0 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s H/W RAID: RR4522SGL

PCIe 3.0 SAS12Gb/s & SATA 6Gb/s: RR3742A

F. RocketRAID 2721

The RocketRAID 2721 (RR2721) is no longer in production. Customers can move existing RAID arrays/disks directly to other RR2700 series controllers. If you are looking for another Hybrid connectivity solution, we recommend the following upgrade:

PCIe 3.0 SAS12Gb/s & SATA 6Gb/s: RR3742A
